California High School Ice Hockey Teams to Compete in America’s Showcase

California Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA) is excited to announce that California will be sending two teams of High School ice hockey players to participate in the 2017 Annual America’s Showcase National Hockey Tournament. Players from the Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League (ADHSHL), Los Angeles Kings High School League (LAKHSHL) along with the Northern California High School Hockey Leagues will combine to form Team CA. As a result of the continued growth of HS hockey in California, two teams from California will participate in this prestigious national event held at the Robert Morris University Island Sports Center, April 20–24, 2017 in Pittsburg, PA. Team San Diego will make their second trip to the tournament allowing players to represent that growing strength of the area.

Selected to lead the 2017 edition of Team California in this tournament will be Coaches Jeff Noviello (JSerra), Dan Adams (Orange Lutheran) and Barry Sherer (Damien). This staff has lead Team California in the past and has the experience to lead and promote the student-athletes to the many scouts in attendance. Leading Team San Diego will be Dr. Jason Galea (Poway) and Dan Wagner (La Jolla Country Day).

“As the plying level of high school hockey continues to grow in California, the expectation level increases as well. Each year the interest level of the players grows, this is great opportunity for student-athletes.” says Coach Noviello. “Last years’ experience only makes the expectations grow, we need to continue that success and show that California players can compete nationwide.” states Coach Adams.

This tournament is an annual event for scouts from many colleges, junior hockey programs, and central scouting organizations throughout the country to come and see some talented players compete.

Both teams can consist of only junior and senior students in good academic standing who participate in the high school leagues throughout the State. Try-outs for Team California are set for February 11th and 12th in Southern California at the The Rinks-Anaheim Ice. Interested players should email Matt Blanchart at meblanchart@gmail.com, , by February 7th to be placed on the try-out list. Try-outs for Team San Diego will be released soon, but interested student-athletes from the San Diego area should contact Coach Galea at dr.galea@me.com .
